1999 United States Mint Set – First Year of the 50 State Quarters Program
The 1999 United States Mint Set is one of the most significant modern issues, marking the debut of the 50 State Quarters Program. This historic launch expanded the Mint Set to include ten quarters—five from Philadelphia and five from Denver—honoring the first five states in the groundbreaking series: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut. Presented in its Original Government Packaging (OGP), this year introduces completely redesigned, red and blue envelopes that highlights the new State Quarters. The official mintage for the 1999 Mint Set was 1,243,867 sets, according to the official Red Book.
Along with the ten State Quarters, the set includes uncirculated Lincoln Cents, Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt Dimes, and 1999 Kennedy Half Dollars from both mints. No circulating dollar coin was struck this year, but the expanded quarter lineup makes this one of the most diverse and visually engaging Mint Sets ever produced. Each coin is sealed in the Mint’s protective cellophane, ensuring preservation of luster, detail, and mintmark clarity.
The 1999 Mint Set is highly sought after as the first entry in the State Quarter era—a program that transformed U.S. coin collecting and introduced millions of new collectors to the hobby. Its redesigned packaging, expanded coin count, and historical significance make it a standout addition for any modern collection.
